Hello, thanks for checking out my website. My passion for food and nutrition began on my family’s five-acre apple farm in the Sierra Nevadas. I learned from a very early age about the importance between where our food comes from, and how eating nutritious foods affects one’s health and well-being.
My interest in health sciences merged with my love of food, which then naturally lead me to obtain a degree in nutrition science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. While an undergraduate, I noticed a gap in the program – too much emphasis on the science of food (the what to eat), and not enough attention on the psychology of eating (the how of eating). With this curiosity, I extended my stay and completed a second bachelor in psychology.
After graduation, I moved from sunny California to the big apple, NYC to attend graduate school at NYU. My grad studies lead me to dig deeper into the relationship between what, how and why humans eat what they do. As much as I loved my time in NYC, I’m a west coast girl at heart, so I had to move back to the Bay area to complete my dietetic internship at UC Berkeley. I’ve been here ever since, practicing nutrition therapy as a registered dietitian/nutritionist (RDN); I’ve been in private practice since 2004.
I feel deeply honored to be in a position where I get to help people learn how to eat in a way that is sustainable and easy. I teach principals of Mindfulness; Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. (Thank you Jon Kabat-Zinn)…
The use of mindfulness skills as applied to your eating, will allow you to achieve a more grounded and less chaotic style of eating; re-balancing the mind-body connection, allowing for a more peaceful and joyful relationship with food. Throughout this process, you’ll come to discover your own philosophy of eating, one that will brings you balance, peace and good health.
When I’m not working with clients, you can find me on my yoga mat or getting messy with my watercolor paints, or dancing it out at 5Rhythms. And when it snows, you’ll find me on my skis somewhere in Tahoe in knee deep powder. And, when the snow melts, I’m on the mountain bike, or hiking all over the hills of Marin.
